At Holy Names, the performing and visual arts are nurtured in the classroom, in extra-curricular activities, and in opportunities for students to share their talents with the Holy Names community.
Private music lessons in voice and various instruments are available. Various clubs and activities cultivate student talent. For example, student musicians and vocalists are prime participants in school liturgical celebrations.
Many events during the school year demonstrate that today’s students are continuing AHN’s reputation for strength in the performing arts. Most of these events are held in the Campus Arts Center.
- Seasonal Concerts – students perform varied musical selections at Christmas and Spring concerts. The Instrumental Ensemble and the Choral Ensemble also entertain the AHN community during seasonal concerts.
- Major Musicals – Annual Middle and High School musicals are huge crowd-pleasers. Among recent productions have been the Middle School’s "Tarzan" and the High School’s production of "Shout".
The visual arts also engage AHN students. Drawing, painting, multicultural art, pottery, photography, digital imaging, and computer graphic design applications are included in the AHN curriculum. Both the Middle and High School have annual Art Shows to highlight student art work. The breadth and depth of the pieces on display show the students’ talent and creativity; the quality of the work shows the students’ dedication to art.
AHN art students have been accepted in many prestigious programs including the Fashion Institute of Technology and Rochester Institute of Technology's medical illustration program.
